Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cup hot water
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8-inch (20 cm) square baking dish.
- Prepare the batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Add wet ingredients: Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. If using nuts, fold them into the batter.
- Spread the batter: Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Prepare the topping: In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter.
- Add hot water: Slowly pour the hot water over the entire mixture. Do not stir—this will create the fudgy sauce as it bakes.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is set and the cake is bubbling.
- Cool slightly & serve: Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes before serving. As you scoop, you’ll see a rich fudge sauce at the bottom.
- Enjoy: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat!
