Ingredients
8 ounces of macaroni, boiled and strained
6 pieces of bacon, prepared and fragmented
¼ cup of salted butter, split
1 onion, quartered and thinly sliced
7 ounces of shredded gruyere cheese
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
½ cup of heavy cream
1 ½ cups of whole milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
- In a skillet, caramelize onions and garlic in half of the butter over medium heat for 15-20 mins. Set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt remaining butter, add flour, and whisk for 1-2 mins to make a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk, cooking until thickened for 3-4 mins.
- Stir in shredded Gruyere until the sauce is smooth. Add cream, salt, and pepper, stirring to combine.
- Combine cooked macaroni, caramelized onions, and cheese sauce in the skillet. Mix well and add most of the bacon, saving some for topping.
- Ensure everything is evenly distributed, then top with the reserved bacon.
