Ingredients
For the Fish:
- 4 fillets of white fish (e.g., cod or haddock)
- 100g plain flour
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 150g breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp paprika (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- Oil for frying
For the Sauce:
- 3 tbsp mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp capers, finely chopped
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
1. Prep the Fish:
Dry the fish fillets thoroughly using paper towels. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
2. Set Up Breading Station:
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs. If you like a bit of spice, stir the paprika into the breadcrumbs.
3. Bread the Fillets:
Start by dredging each fillet in flour, tapping off the extra. Dip the floured fish into the egg mixture, making sure it’s well-coated. Then press the fish into the breadcrumbs until evenly coated on all sides.
4. Fry to Perfection:
Heat enough oil in a large skillet over medium heat to shallow fry. Once hot, carefully add the fish fillets in batches. Cook for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until the coating is crisp and golden. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil.
5. Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, lemon juice, Dijon mustard, and chopped capers. Add salt and pepper to taste.
6. Serve and Enjoy:
Plate the crispy fish fillets while they’re still hot and crunchy. Serve alongside the dipping sauce for a delicious contrast of textures and flavors.
