Ingredients:
- 1 liter (4 cups) whole milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
- A pinch of salt
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a medium-sized baking dish with a little butter.
- Heat the milk:
In a saucepan, gently warm the milk (do not boil). Set aside to cool slightly. - Prepare the batter:
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs with the sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the melted butter, vanilla, and a pinch of salt. Mix well. - Add dry ingredients:
Sift the flour and cornstarch into the egg mixture. Stir gently to combine. - Incorporate milk:
Gradually add the warm milk to the batter while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. The batter should be very liquidy. - Bake:
Pour the mixture into the greased dish. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45–50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. - Cool and serve:
Let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours. Slice carefully into squares and enjoy chilled or at room temperature.
Tips:
- If you want a slightly firmer texture, add an extra tablespoon of cornstarch.
- For an even richer flavor, you can replace 1/2 cup of milk with heavy cream.
