Banana Bread Cinnamon Rolls

Fluffy, golden rolls infused with ripe banana and cinnamon, topped with luscious cream cheese icing.


Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 eggs
  • 4½–5 cups all-purpose flour

For the Filling:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Icing:

  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tbsp milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
    • Stir in sugar, melted butter, salt, mashed bananas, and eggs. Mix well.
    • Add flour gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Filling:
    • In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon.
    • Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches).
    • Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  3. Roll and Slice:
    • Starting from the long edge, roll the dough into a tight log.
    • Slice into 12 equal rolls and place in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
    • Cover and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  4. Bake:
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake rolls for 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Make the Icing:
    • Beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth.
    • Add powdered sugar and vanilla, then mix in milk a little at a time until desired consistency is reached.
  6. Frost and Serve:
    • Spread icing over warm cinnamon rolls.
    • Serve immediately and enjoy!
