Ingredients:
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups milk, divided
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 4-5 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into six patties.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides. They don’t need to be fully cooked at this stage. Set aside.
- Using the same skillet, whisk 1 cup of milk with the flour until smooth. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of milk while stirring until a thick gravy forms. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed.
- Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in an even layer at the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread half of the onion slices on top.
- Place the browned hamburger patties over the onion layer.
- Add the remaining potatoes and onions, creating another layer over the patties.
- Pour the prepared gravy evenly over the layers.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, and bake uncovered for another 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving.
