Ingredients
For the Dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk (any kind – dairy or non-dairy)
For the Honey Glaze:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tbsp water
- (Optional) 1 tsp vanilla extract for added flavor
Instructions
Step 1: Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Add in the melted butter, eggs, and milk. Stir until the dough becomes smooth and slightly sticky. If it’s too wet, add a little more flour gradually.
Step 2: Let It Rest
Cover the bowl with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 10 to 15 minutes. This helps relax the gluten and makes the dough easier to shape.
Step 3: Shape the Puffs
Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the dough into a thin rectangle (about 1/8 inch thick). Cut it into 1/2-inch wide strips using a knife or pizza cutter.
Twist each strip into a bowtie or figure-eight shape and set them aside on a tray.
Step 4: Fry Until Golden
Heat vegetable or canola oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Gently add 4–6 puffs at a time, depending on your pan size. Fry for 1–2 minutes on each side, turning as needed until they’re puffed and golden.
Step 5: Glaze and Serve
Remove the puffs from the oil and drain on paper towels. While they’re still warm, coat them in the honey glaze or drizzle it over the top. Let the glaze set a bit before serving.
