Does Anyone Still Eat Shepherd’s Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, then drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
  4. Stir in the frozen peas and carrots, beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Transfer the beef mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
  6. If desired, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving.
